a mind in the heart
The 8 movements are in part inspired by the Serbian Orthodox chant, its melodic attributes and development, the unmeasured and semi-improvisational performance practice and overall emotional and spiritual qualities of the music itself. And the way in which those attributes would be explored through a completely foreign instrument to that practice - the piano. The horizontal world of melody and drone, is induced through the vertical environment of a harmonic instrument.
a mind in the heart is an 8 movement piece and album for solo piano, created in collaboration between the Serbian/Dutch composer Ivan Vukosavljević and the Portuguese pianist Joana Gama. Composed between 2022 and 2024, the album is planned for release at around the end of 2025 by the Dutch based label TRPTK, with a premiere concert planned for January 2026 in The Hague at Musical Utopias.

Through these means and in the concert experience, we are inviting the audience into an atmosphere of intimacy and introspection. Creating an ambiance that echoes the performance notes by Arvo Pärt for his piece “Für Alina”: “Peacefully, in an elevated and introspective manner”
